Despacito, a song by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee was released in the year. The song became the number one streamed music at that period within six months. It was a mix of reggaeton and pop did not only bring attention to reggaeton, but also drew interest towards Latin music in general. The Billboard Top 100 had four songs during 2016, which was compared with two songs from 2015. At the peak of Despacito's popularity in 2017 however 19 mostly Spanish songs made it onto the Top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 such songs. When Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017, a number of popular artists started to work with reggaeton artists. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated on MIA (2018) in addition to Madonna and Maluma worked together on Medellin, 2019 In 2020, several Reggaeton stars were dissatisfied with the trend of the genre toward the mainstream. However, a younger generation, Rauw Alejandro, was keen to keep the trend going. The genre often incorporated elements from electronic dance music in addition to other styles.
